Footprints in the Sand
Footprints in the Sand, a beautiful poem!
,

One night I dreamed a dream.
As I was walking along the beach with my Lord.
Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand,
One belonging to me and one to my Lord.
After the last scene of my life flashed before me,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that at many times along the path of my life,
especially at the very lowest and saddest times,
there was only one set of footprints.
This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it.
"Lord, you said once I decided to follow you,
You'd walk with me all the way.
But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life,
there was only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me."
He whispered, "My precious child, I love you and will never leave you
Never, ever, during your trials and testings.
When you saw only one set of footprints,
It was then that I carried you."

When I first got clean and sober I was working the first 3 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous with my sponsor. I learned that evening that it wasn’t God who turned away from me but rather I turned away. I had done a lot of terrible things while in my disease and was sure God didn’t love me because I was so bad. I learned all I needed was to turn around. In that room when I turned around I felt God’s warm embrace and the love and safety that showed me I had never been abandoned. I know some people who have scoffed at my experience but I wept that night while God held me. When I found the poem “footprints in the sand” I knew I didn’t get to where I was on my own two feet. God had carried me during many of those times. I have a copy I keep on my phone and framed on my wall in my home. If in my humanness if I forget it re-centers me and reminds me that I am not alone. I can’t imagine my life without God in it. Nor would I like to imagine or experience my life without God in it. I ask everyday what can I do to be of service to God. I am not a religious Bible thumper but I am spiritual.
How come it doesn’t say at the bottom of the poem Artist unknown that’s the way I remember it from 40 years ago
Every time I read that poem it reminds me of my Lord and how much he loves me
When our marriage ended after 30 years i fell apart. When i came back to my hometown I was alone but i felt like a presence was with me. A loving presence that cared for me.I know now that Jesus carried me through it all!

This is such a beautiful poem ... I liked that part the most when he looks behind and there's only one pair prints... And God says tha he had taken the man on his shoulders!
One of the most beautiful poems ever written. If this doesn't touch your heart maybe you need to check your pulse.
I was lost and broken all broken down down until I remembered this poem that hangs on my wall and I remembered who I was. A child of God and it was then, just like that I showed them exactly who I am! With God’s help, anything is possible if you believe in him and yourself. Hope floats! Thank you Jesus for loving a sinner like me and for giving me a second chance at living my dream and God given purpose and destiny for me to freedom road and redemption with grace, humility, with compassion and forgiveness of my enemies who mean me harm.
I belive that God is always with us!
Sometimes we got so carried away with the issue of life that we forget that God is actually with us

It's so true & many times I've been carried by Jesus, the one who loves me the most
That was beautiful.
Was just walking along the beach yesterday with my partner at sunset and we had just reunited after our separation and I told him about the footprints ? verse but couldn’t quite remember all of it and it had such an impact on us that I would love to have a copy around our house to never forget the power of Jesus and his love and the day we reconnected thankfully Suzanne

The last paragraph struck me the most, we often not realized when God carry us through our tough time because we are focus on the struggle and not try to rely on Him, as God had said, "Be still and know that I am God," He is God, Our Father Who can command the stormy sea to be calmed.
I need this in my life right now.
For a friend who is very low.
Heart touching reminder to me about my loving and caring heavenly Father
This prayer is in my heart since my father showed me as a little girl,so many times, footprints ?? has comforted me through ,I've read to my children, and loved ones ,light and love in every word ,holy spirit shinning shimmering through another storm

I love this poem. It make me know that Jesus carried me we I had no one .he always been there for me.even tho I'm hurt I know he loves me anyway .it hurts to love an care about someone more than yourself. Thank you for letting me read this it means a lot to me..
I love this poem, I have been carried many times in my life.
I was very touched emotionally
The first time i saw this i think i was in my twenties. I was so overwhelmed with love that i began to cry so hard and couldn't stop for what seemed like hours. It was do powerful to think that no matter how great our sins the lord not only never leaves us but will pick us up and carry us through the pain because he loves us that much.
When my father was first diagnosed with cancer, i have him a picture frame of this with the footprints in the sand and he set it on his dresser and read it every day as he was putting on his watch and getting ready for the day. The thing about the lord is that all he wants for us all is to love each other and know without a doubt that he loves us. When i think about how selfishly i lived my life i feel so much guilt that i can't stop crying because i feel so bad. I just want people to hear my story and to not live like i have so you can feel Gods love and love your family the same.way before it's too late and you dont have the chance to make it better.
This is my hope and my prayer for all of mam kind.
I have loved this poem for many years.I try to get comfort. Now I'm reading it often. In serious constant pain.Lord guide the Dr's with right answers.

Having just come off a sorrowful trial in my life, I needed to read this poem and remind myself that Christ truly has been, always, carrying me through my sadness and has always, been walking with me throughout my life.
I loved reading that poem!! Amazing how it tells you that the lord would never abandon you!! I understood it perfectly especially in times of sorrow or really hard times one faces in life!! Beautiful!!! Thank You .
Beautiful poem so true.
I first saw this poem in a hospital in Florida. I was doing my in home hospice for my dad as he was dying of cancer. He only had a few days left so we moved him to a hospice unit. When I was sitting with him I got a call from life alert and I thought it was a joke but they said my mom had fallen. I was 30 miles away and ended up meeting her at hospital straped to a gurney. Hip broken fracture in her head. Oh lord really how much can you give me. I left at 2AM and she was situated in room.
I went back to her house slept a few hours and went back to see her. As I was standing by her bed the phone rings and it is Sue the hospice nurse. She said Bill where are you. I said at hospital my mom fell and is in rough shape. She I'm sorry but your dad just passed away. I then had to turn to my mom the ultimate caretaker and tell her. It was so much. Back to hospice and take care of things than back to hospital to see when mom be operated on. By now it is 8pm and I was exhausted and emotionally spent.
I went downstairs and saw a small chapel. So I sat down awhile, prayed and it was beautiful as I was leaving I saw on this wall a beautiful picture with the footprints poem on it and I read it and read it again and felt like it was God talking to me and he said your not alone I have been carrying you this whole time. I wept a tough guy like me and felt the present of God now in all my deeds. The poem hangs in my bedroom to this day.
So thanks for asking
